Fond memories of living in Cork for 6 months....Fugazi live was a major highlight. If I recall they kicked of the show with an extra drummer who hitched a ride to Cork from Dublin with the lads. Downloading now the relive the experience :)
Great story, and an amazing, astonishing photo by Molly Stevens! Can't wait to check out this gig
What a great show story! Thanks for sharing.
We drove a 100km in my clapped out volvo to this gig in Cork. Calls to Nancy Spains to get tickets in advance were met with - "Yup we have tickets you'll get them on the door" - arriving at the venue the same answer, at the front of the queue same answer. Doors open - "Sorry sold out" - WHAT!
I'd spent weeks sharing stories about Fugazi with two young (17 year old) musicians, we lived in a small village, and a gig like this wasn't going to come along too often. "If you're serious about being a musician you have to go, I'll take you."
In the alley outside the venue with the arrrgghh of injustice growing we spotted the van and the band. "Lads there a 1% chance we can get in to this gig, 1% is enough for me, you want to take it?" "Yes!"
I approached Guy said hello, and shared our story. Guy took us to the door and got us in - we paid, we wanted to - "Lads, when you're off on tour never forget what just happened there."
Today Karl (Drums) & Darren (Double Bass) are exceptional jazz musicians.
Thank you Guy, Fugazi, another blinding gig / experience and story.
I have a couple of photos, when I find them, I'll pass them on.

I first heard In on the killtaker at a music shop listening post in France. It was the early 90's and I was about 14 years of age. When I got back to Cork I found tape cassettes of the band in a little indie record store. I think it was called Comet records. I couldn't believe when Fugazi came to town. I had little crumpled handwritten fan mail in my pocket which I never handed over.
