I remember Karate opening. It was a rainy night as well. We came from Hartford area after seeing them a few days before at The West Indian Social Club. Stayed the night at RISD with a friend who went to school there on their floor with all the paint splattered projects. It was hot and packed that night at the old Lupo's. They never disappointed live. I am glad this all available, so I can go back and relive the past a little every once in awhile. Thank you.

I could be wrong, but Guy's little freestyle during Interlude 4 sounds like it could be a song by Can.

I was at this show and remember it pretty vividly. My friends and I were so surprised when a mic was placed in front of Joe for "By You". Reading the track listing confirms how many "Red Medicine" songs we got to hear for the first time that night. If I recall correctly, your "Listen as the band encourages the audience to not set fire to one another!" note refers to an incident that occurred during "Promises". I look forward to hearing this recording.

Just one note: I'm certain that the other bands on this particular show were KARATE and MAKE UP. Both bands were fairly new and unknown to my friends and I at this point. A few songs into MAKE-UP's set, we recognized three of its members from NATION OF ULYSSES. Our teenage minds were blown by the fact that James and Steve were playing the opposite instruments we'd known them to play in NOU. I don't think they had released anything at this point, but, I do recall buying KARATE's "Nerve" b/w "Death Kit" single from Eamonn after the show.

I see that there's a flyer which states that the April 12th show was with KARATE and UNWOUND, but, I believe that was the previous night's lineup. Perhaps this flyer was made before changes to the show occurred? For what it's worth, I think the details got conflated with your listing for the 4/11/1995 show which states UNWOUND and MAKE-UP as the other bands. I don't think those bands played together at either one of these Lupo's shows.

Anyway, thanks for all your terrific work!
