New Medications Album Scheduled For April 2010

December 23, 2009

Medications have wrapped up recording and mixing their new album, Completely Removed, and if all goes as planned it should be released on CD/LP/MP3 in April 2010. This album documents a new phase for the band with Chad Molter and Devin Ocampo covering all the writing and most of the instrumental duites following the departure of Andrew Becker. They are joined live and in the studio by longtime friend and musical swingman Mark Cisneros. Completely Removed represents a bit of a departure from the band's signature off kilter rockers and dives headlong into more uncharted waters with what we think are absolutely thrilling results. Stay tuned!

Holiday Shipping Reminders

December 03, 2009

During the high-volume holiday season packages can sometimes take longer to arrive from the USPS than normal. Packages sent by Media Mail usually arrive within 7-10 days under normal conditions, however in rare instances they can take up to 3 weeks. If it is important for your order to arrive by a certain date you may want to consider using the First Class or Priority delivery options.

Also be advised that our delivery estimates are based on the date your order is shipped and not the date it is ordered. The vast majority of our packages go out within 48 hours (and in may cases well before that) but once they are out the door a specific delivery date cannot be guaranteed.

Gift Packaging for Vinyl: Please note that Basla routinely removes vinyl albums from their covers before shipping them to prevent the periodic tearing of covers from records moving inside their sleeves. If you're ordering vinyl as a gift and would prefer for the record to remain in its shrink-wrap please include a note and we'll keep it sealed for you.

Daniel Higgs Art Exhibit At Mountian Fold In NYC

December 02, 2009

"The Hieroglyphic Ideal" paintings and drawings by Daniel Higgs (Lungfish) will be exhibited at the Mountain Fold Gallery in NYC from December 10 until January 9th. The Opening reception is Thursday December 10th from 7-9PM.

Mountain Fold is pleased to announce the opening of The Hieroglyphic Ideal, a show by Daniel Higgs. In Higgs' paintings and drawings, celestial bodies, plants, internal organs, animals, humans, and other elements from the material realm convene to form a visual symbology. Like hieroglyphs, his art constructs a system that can express emotion and tell stories that are otherwise uncommunicable in extant language. By imbuing the real with the imaginative, he offers a mythological, fantastical interpretation of our present surroundings.

Gallery hours: Wednesday through Saturday 1:00- 7:00pm or by appointment.

Clark Sabine 1975-2009

June 18, 2009

Clark Sabine, our friend and fellow musician, died Tuesday evening after a short but intense last battle with cancer. He was 33 years old. Clark played in Statehood, Andalusians, and Motorcycle Wars, where his hilarious and ridiculous stage entrances are still legend around these parts. He was a character with manic creative energy who held a deep affection for all of us who shared his passion for music in the Washington, DC underground.

He will be missed.

Our hearts go out to his family, bandmates, and friends. They formed an incredible support network in the last few weeks of his life, surrounding him with love and comfort, as well as laughter... that joy that Clark shared with so many of us.

A "Celebration of Life" ceremony will be held for Clark on Sunday June 21st at 11:30am at the Fairfax Country Club.

Visit the Statehood website for more information on Clark and his music.

Here is a link to some Motorcycle Wars material we found.

The Dischord LP Re-Mastered Series

April 10, 2009

In mid 2008 Dischord Records began re-mastering and re-cutting much of our vinyl catalog here in the United States (after years of making our records in Europe). The first of these re-mastered LPs appeared at the end of 2008 and we will continue to roll out newly re-issued LPs throughout 2009. We began by re-pressing current titles, and later re-issuing older titles, all re-cut at Chicago Mastering Service (many from from the Silver Sonya masters). All the re-mastered albums feature complimentary MP3 album downloads.

For a complete list of our re-mastered LPs go here: Dischord re-mastered LPs

Dischord has always enjoyed very high quality vinyl mastering. For many years much of our vinyl was mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London by our friend and partner John Loder, who passed away in 2005. But the metal-work that is used to press vinyl LPs eventually wears out with use and we decided that with John's passing and with a renewed interest in vinyl that it was time to bring these projects back home and pass the torch to Bob Weston and Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Service.

This will be the first release on the DSI Archives Label, which will be re-releasing various projects from DSI bands as well as oddities from the same. Once these CDs are available we will carry them here at Dischord.

The Fort Reno Summer Concert Series Needs Your Help

March 31, 2009

A note from Amanda at Fort Reno:
Fort Reno is getting ready for the summer, wading through an amazing amount of submissions. As I set about building a great line-up of concerts it comes time for me to shake the basket, so to speak.

Although we charge nothing, it actually costs us something to make the shows happen. And we are nowhere near our financial goal to get the concert series up and rolling this summer.

So, if you might take a moment and think about what you would pay to see three bands while you eat dinner or nap in the grass with your canine pal; then take another moment to donate that at www.fortreno.com. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking a moment. We look forward to seeing you this summer.

love,
Amanda

Lux Interior Dies At 62

February 06, 2009

Without Lux Interior and the Cramps there is a fair chance that Dischord never would have come into existence. Thirty years ago Jeff and Ian went to see the Cramps play at Georgetown University's Hall of Nations and came out of the gig inspired to form a band. By that summer they were in The Slinkees and by fall they were playing in The Teen Idles. A year later The Teen Idles created Dischord and released their posthumous record.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Lux's death and want to send our thoughts to his family.

He was beyond inspirational...

He was the garbageman.

Thank you, Lux.

Love. Dischord
